SMSIS celebrates Brunei’s 33rd National Day

In line with this year’s theme, “Menjayakan Wawasan Negara," which literally means ‘Accomplishing the National Vision,’ a special National Day assembly was held recently at Seri Mulia Sarjana International School to mark Brunei’s 33nd National Day.

In a school where appreciation of international culture is strongly encouraged, SMSIS aims to awaken and to strengthen nationalistic pride and to promote co - operation and unity among the members of the school community.

A series of engaging activities involving the teachers, students and staff enlivened the celebration. To express their unwavering allegiance, they enthusiastically waved the flaglets and banners as they sang the Brunei national anthem with pride. A few patriotic performances, such as the reading on the history of Brunei by selected Upper Primary students, the rendition of a Malay song by the kiddos and a traditional dance number were well – applauded by the audience.

The Malay teachers and staff facilitated some local games such as Kaki Tiga, Tinting, Galing Gata, Maincara and Conkak which everyone enjoyed.

In conjunction with this, the presentation and oath taking of the newly elected Student Council officers and members was also held. After their oath of allegiance, they proudly received the official Student Council pin which signifies that these young and vibrant student - leaders are committed to serve the school and its student body.

It was a significant annual event capped by a jubilant community shouting “Merdeka” to instill the spirit of patriotism and love for their beloved country as well as their support to uphold the country’s Vision 2035.

The joyful celebration concluded with a class party as SMSIS learners enjoyed a variety of local dishes in their respective classrooms.
