SMSIS Students win awards in 17th Asia Pacific Maths Olympiad for Primary Schools

Seri Mulia Sarjana International School students placed within the Top 10 of the recently concluded 17th Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools hosted by Chung Hwa Middle School, BSB on Saturday, 8th of April 2017.


The team is composed of Paul Daniel Bernardo Pastrana (Y6B), Elijah Cheam Kai Jie (Y6C), James Lam Shaoyou (Y6C) and Matthew Abel Robles Filio (Y6C) and Natasha Irene Low Jia Li (Y6A) who successfully earned the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th places respectively. They also bagged the Second Runner-up Position in the Team Challenge Category of the competition.  


The team of students is trained by their supportive teachers lead by Teacher Joanna Lim Lan Sing, who also heads the Mathematics Department for SMSIS, and Teacher Rosy Pauly.
Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools – shortened as APMOPS – is a competitive event organised by Hwa Chung Institution based in Singapore with an objective to generate greater interest in Mathematics among pupils in primary schools and also sharpening their problem-solving skills. Participants of the competition hail from various Asia Pacific countries including Brunei and the hosting country Singapore.
